The Geneva Connection

John Kent thought he had it all. The phenomenal success of his private equity firm has propelled him into the world’s wealthy super-league. Self-made and from a poor background, he’s living his dream. Then he discovers his financial backers are a front for the world’s largest organized crime group, the Mexican Caruana drug cartel. It is run by Felix Safuentes, also known as “Jivaro” after the South American tribe famous for decapitating its enemies. Kent’s nightmare hasn’t even started…

Some early reviews:

I couldn’t put The Geneva Connection down once I started it. The intricate plot, laced with just enough background information to make it realistic and understandable, takes twist after turn until you reach the final destination, white-knuckling it all the way. An intense thrill ride through the world of investment banking, drug cartels, and money laundering…  Long and Short Reviews

Novelist Martin Bodenham has penned The Geneva Connection, a thriller straddling the City, the English countryside, Mexican back roads and the US Drug Enforcement Administration. With this page-turner, Bodenham aspires to do for fund managers what John Grisham has done for lawyers…  Corporate Financier Magazine

The Geneva Connection has a menacing opening with a hook and a barb to make the hook stick.  Thriller readers are hooked, barbed and immediately reeled in.  The narrative mesmerizes from the outset.  The pace is swift and the action enough to make any reader’s toes curl in frightening expectation…   Art Cockerill, Writer and Journalist

A very credible and fast paced thriller.  Great plot twists and turns.  Hard to put down.  An amazing first time novel…   John Mackie

We all love a plot twist just when we think we have it figured out.  I thoroughly recommend this as a great read. Typically, I read Lee Child, Grisham, Baldacci and Corben.   I am looking forward to the next Bodenham as much as I am the next from these favourites…   Jon Glesinger

If you love to read books written in the style of John Grisham or Michael Connelly, then I would highly recommend this. A great read, and I am looking forward to reading more from this new author…   AJB

The book has a strong, cinematic opening that is sure to grip you.  Bodenham has created a believable world populated by living, breathing characters who have their own backstories, woven into the story with a light touch.  The drama builds on both sides of the Atlantic and the author’s knowledge of the financial markets gives the book an edge on many other thrillers.  The tension ratchets up wonderfully until the nail-biting climax.  There’s an almost Shakespearean scale to this book.  You won’t be disappointed…   Derek Thompson

I bought this book as I am a fan of Ridpath and Frey.  This book is as good as anything written by either of these writers.  The novel has a good pace, strong tension and credible characters.  Looking forward to the next book…   DPM

Bodenham is the financial world’s Grisham.  He has a way of making the normally dull world of private equity and investment banking appear exciting and dangerous. The characters hooked me from the start.  While I didn’t like the main character at the beginning, by the end I couldn’t put this book down.  I had to find out what happens to him.  A real page turner in the style of Grisham’s legal thrillers.  My only disappointment is that, when I reached the end, I wished there was more! I can’t wait for his next book…   JY777

I read the whole book in less than 24 hours, which demonstrates how much I enjoyed it.  The plot was fast paced and exciting…   Adrian Gill

Three ruthless men, each misunderstanding or underestimating his rivals, vie in an increasingly suspenseful and complex intrigue to achieve their ends. A nominally law-abiding British investment expert gleefully exploits others’ economic dilemmas in these difficult times for his own benefit. The head of a Mexican drug cartel, bent upon establishing a legacy of unbelievable financial wealth, will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. And an American drug enforcement official, immersed in his own world of power plays and vengeance, loses sight of his department’s mission as the stakes rise and become personal. They come together in a well-plotted and realistic-feeling story…   Kathleen M. Rockwood

I recently saw a review that compared Martin Bodenham to the financial world’s John Grisham.  I think I have to agree with that.  His writing style will keep your attention for sure.  It is obvious he knows his way around financial investing.  Throwing a drug cartel into the mix made for a great read.  There were a lot of characters to follow and a lot going on but it wasn’t confusing at all. The story was great and a definite page turner.  Can’t wait for more…   June E. Kramin

The Geneva Connection reminds me why I don’t usually read thrillers. I spent the drive home checking my rearview mirror for pursuing drug cartel assassins or rogue DEA agents! I was completely sucked into the plot and found myself fascinated by the world of investment banking in ways that probably aren’t healthy. That’s how good this book is! Bodenham’s cinematic style and unrelenting action and suspense have created a real page turner that is nearly impossible to put down. It is not for the faint of heart, however, having some sincerely ruthless characters. But if you love a thriller or are just looking for something that turns the banking business into an adventure, search no further…   21 Days

Clearly written by someone with first hand knowledge of the real world with twists and turns which keep it moving at a pace. Not like every day at the office, but many of the characters resonated with me…you had to keep turning the pages…   H.D. Leigh

Martin Bodenham did a wonderful job of keeping me emotionally attached to this book! I loved the unseen plot twists and the detail of not just the banking industry but the drug cartel and international money laundering as well. It’s very rare for me to yell “NO!!!” to a book, but this one had me very interested and entertained the whole way through.  The biggest thing I enjoyed about The Geneva Connection was it forced me to pay attention as I read – I am a fiction reader for escape. This book held my attention throughout and I’d love to see more by Mr. Bodenham…  Kerry Mand
